Iqra Privacy Policy
The short version. Iqra has no accounts and no advertising. It does not track you, does not sell anything about you, and does not contain an analytics SDK. Your location is used on your device only and is never sent anywhere. The one thing that does leave your phone is a question you choose to type into Ask Iqra AI.
Who this policy is from
Iqra is built and published by Umer Qureshi (Analytics AIML), Rawalpindi, Pakistan.
This policy covers the Android app com.analyticsaiml.iqra distributed through Google Play.
What Iqra does not do
- No user accounts, sign-in or registration.
- No advertising, ad SDKs or ad identifiers.
- No analytics or behavioural tracking SDK.
- No selling, renting or trading of your information — ever.
- No access to your contacts, photos, files, camera, microphone or precise GPS.
Information the app handles
| Data | Leaves your device? | Shared? | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Approximate location | No — stays on your device | No | Prayer times and Qibla direction, computed locally. |
| Questions you type into Ask Iqra AI | Yes | Yes — with the AI provider that generates the reply | To produce an answer. Not linked to any identity, never used for advertising. |
| Bookmarks, quiz progress, settings | No — stays on your device | No | Remembering where you left off. |
| Name, email, phone, account | Not collected | No | Iqra has no accounts and no sign-in. |
| Contacts, photos, files, precise GPS | Not collected | No | The app never requests these. |
| IP address and timestamp in server logs | Yes — transient | No | Standard web-server logging when the app downloads content. Kept briefly for security and abuse prevention, then discarded. |
Location, specifically
Prayer times and the Qibla bearing depend on where you are. The app asks only for approximate location — city-level — and never precise GPS. That coordinate is used inside the app to run the calculation and is not transmitted to us or to anyone else. If you would rather not grant the permission at all, Iqra lets you pick your city manually and works exactly the same way.
Ask Iqra AI, specifically
If you type a question into the Ask Iqra AI screen, that question text is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it to an AI provider to generate the reply. We do not attach your name, an account or a device identifier to it, because the app has none. The question is not used to advertise to you and is not sold. Do not type anything into it you would not want to leave your phone — the same advice applies to any AI assistant.
What stays on your device
Bookmarks, quiz progress, tasbih counts, prayer settings and your chosen city are stored in the app's own private storage on your phone. They are not backed up to us. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it.
Permissions and why each one exists
- Internet & network state — Download reading material (Quran, tafsir, hadith, zikr) and answer Ask Iqra AI questions. Learning content is bundled in the app and works offline.
- Approximate location — Work out prayer times and the Qibla bearing for where you are. Approximate (city-level) accuracy is all the app requests — never precise GPS. You can skip the permission entirely and pick your city by hand instead.
- Notifications — Show prayer reminders.
- Alarms & reminders — Fire each prayer reminder at the correct minute. If you do not grant it, the app falls back to inexact alarms and keeps working.
- Run at startup — Re-schedule your prayer reminders after the phone restarts, since Android clears pending alarms on reboot.
- Vibration — Haptic feedback on the tasbih counter and reminders.
- Foreground service (media playback) — Play the adhan at prayer time with a Stop control in the notification.
Children
Iqra is a general-audience app. It is not directed at children under 13, does not knowingly collect information from them, and contains no advertising or in-app purchases.
Data retention and deletion
There is no account to delete, because there is no account. Everything the app stores about you lives on your phone and is removed when you uninstall it. Server logs that record a request (IP address and timestamp) are kept only briefly for security and abuse prevention, then discarded. If you want to ask about data held on our side, use the contact form.
Security
All network traffic between the app and our servers uses encrypted HTTPS connections.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects what the app does with your information, the date at the top of this page will change and the updated policy will be published here before the change ships in an app release.
